November 2011
Pictured (right to left), Highlands’s resident, Elaine Carlton receives her flu shot administered by Registered Nurse, Dixie Stewart, during the Annual Community Influenza Clinic provided by Highlands-Cashiers Hospital (HCH).
The clinic was held on the Hospital campus at the Jane Woodruff Clinic Monday, November 14th. HCH provided over 80 flu immunizations to area residents free of charge. “Assisting our communities in preventing illness and leading healthy, productive lives is a very important part our mission at HCH,” said President and CEO Craig James. “We hope everyone will take action to obtain this vaccine, which is a critical mechanism to prevent the flu.”

Two weeks post op from arthroscopic knee surgery, Cashiers Resident Helen Bertles pictured with Physical Therapist, Amy Nader, begins her recovery using new equipment generously donated to Highlands-Cashiers Hospital’s Physical Therapy (Cashiers Office). The equipment was donated through a grant funded by the Wade Hampton Golf Club Donor Advised Fund. “We are excited about this generosity from our Wade Hampton neighbors to provide this vitally needed rehabilitation equipment for therapies and care. Our patients can now benefit from the Platform Mounted Parallel Bars (as seen above) helping individuals with walking and mobility issues, recovery after hip and knee surgeries/replacements and muscle strengthening,” said Ms. Nader. Wade Hampton’s funds also purchased a new NuStep Recumbent Cross Trainer that stimulates a natural walking motion without joint stress while helping patients rebuild strength and increase cardio-vascular fitness.
“With this nearly $6,000 grant from the Wade Hampton Donor Advisory Fund, Cashiers area residents will have local access to enhanced physical therapy services and a wider range of treatments,” said Robin Taylor, Executive Director of the Highlands-Cashiers Hospital Foundation. “The Cashiers Physical Therapy team works diligently everyday to improve the health and quality of life of their patients and have truly become an asset to our community. All of us at Highlands-Cashiers Hospital are grateful recipients of Wade Hampton’s Donor Advisor Funds philanthropy.”
