J. Noell, md
University of Arkansas College of Medicine, Little Rock, AR.
Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach, FL (Family Practice), Sinai
Hospital of Detroit, Detroit, MI (General Surgery).
American Board of Surgery.
the American College of Surgeons, member of the American Association
of Physicians and Surgeons.
At the age of 12
Billy Noell developed appendicitis which resulted in emergency
surgery. The experience left him with a very negative impression of
the whole experience: I remember thinking at the time that they could
have done a much better job, said Noell. I was treated as if I
wasnt there; I felt as though I was just a body. As a result, Noell
decided to follow a career in medicine. I thought I could do a better
job, he recalls. After earning his MD and completing his internship
and residency in general surgery, Dr. Noell moved to Sylva, North
Carolina, where practiced for the next 19 years.
In December 2008
Dr. Noell was approached by Highlands-Cashiers Hospital (HCH) and
offered a position to join and augment the staff of existing surgeons.
He accepted; joining the team in January 2008 and doing so enabled the
hospital to now offer the services of a general surgeon 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week. The expanded surgical team, together with
state-of-the-art facilities, now provided the community a hospital
unique in its offering. The size of the hospital means that we have
more time to devote to each patient and their family members. As a
result they are treated with respect, empathy and professionalism,
said Dr Noell, a far cry from the experience I had as a 12 year old.
Dr. Noell likes to spend his free time with his family, working in his
yard, exercising, playing golf and reading.
